Course Objective

This course will enable participants to gain a full understanding of the importance of outdoor play for early childhood education and will enable students to develop developmentally appropriate outdoor activities, equipment and supplies for the outdoor classroom.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe the importance and value of outdoor play for young children.
2   Plan and compose an order of developmentally appropriate equipment and supplies for the outdoor classroom.
3   Select components for a developmentally appropriate outdoor environment.
4   Connect the concepts of safety outdoors with classroom safety rules
5   Describe the importance of extending in class activities to the outdoor environment.
6   Compile a resource file of outdoor activities that promote children s development.
7   Design an outdoor learning environment for young children.
8   Observe and assess outdoor play.
