Course Objective

In this course, it is aimed that the student shall know palliative care purpose, philosophy and principles as well as responsibilities of palliative care team, determine the necessities of the patient and the patient s family, plan nursing interventions directed at pain and other symptoms of patient in need of palliative care, communicate with the patient and the patient s family, plan the care of dying patient and her/his family, knows the posthumous care of the patient, plan the care of the family in mourning process

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Know palliative care purpose, philosophy, principles and the nurse s role and responsibilities
2   Explains the physiopathology of physical symptoms that can be seen in the patient
3   Plans and applies the nursing care of the patient and the patient s family by using evidence-based information
4   Plans home care of the patient and the patient s family, consults.
5   Plans the care of dying patient and her/his family
6   Solves the problems that the patient or the patient s family may encounter by taking ethical and legal principles into account.

3 Care of patients with delirium/ uneasiness/ agitation
4 Care of patients with anorexia and cachexy
5 Care of patients with nausea and throwing up
6 Care of patients with constipation problem
7 Care of patients with acid and edema
8 Care of patients with dyspnea
9 Spiritual care of patient
10 Home care of palliative care patient,Problems encountered in home care Family burden
11 Communication with Patient and the patient s family Psycho-social problems of the patient
