Course Objective

The aim of this course is to analyze the language of journalism both in English and Turkish, to explore the differences in language usage, to follow the current written media texts and to practice translating from English to Turkish or vice versa.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   In this course the students are able to learn the norms of language of journalism comparatively.
2   They will explain different types of text types such as news, articles and advertisements.
3   They will acquire the related terms, idioms and linguistic structure to translate the media texts effectively.
4   They will analyze texts in terms of register, style and discourse.
5   They will gain deeper awareness to find solutions to problems occuring in this field.

2. Students should deliver their homework assignments on time. Being absent is not considered an excuse.
3. Assesments will include the midterm and final exams and homework assignments.
