Course Objective

This course aims to enhance listening comprehension and expression skills of students, enable them to understand the message in the text they listen to, and to strengthen their memories through various exercises and acquire listening skills for translation purpose. It is also a preparation course for consecutive and simultaneous interpreting.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students will comprehend the main message in the German texts they have listened to and transfer it to the others.
2   Students will keep details such as numbers, names in their minds and transfer them to the others properly.
3   Students will be familiar with discourse, address, opening and closing speeches used in the texts of speech.
4   Students will acquire the skills required for interpreting courses they will take through preparation exercises.
5   Students will be able talk about various topics in both languages at a basic level and translate.

2 Theoretical information on listening skills and interpreting Distinctive features of interpreting, expression styles and functions. Analysis difference between communicative and aesthetic functions of speech
3 Memory exercises with numeric data Listening and evaluating graphics, tables and signs in German
4 Shadowing and memory exercises
5 Listening to German speeches, answering questions and repeating the speech in the same language
6 Listening to German speeches, answering questions and repeating the speech in the same language
7 Listening and summarizing paragraphs in German on various topics Skimming the speech text and listening exercise to comprehend the general information
8 Midterm Exam

1. Learning Outcomes 1-5 will be assessed as per 30% homework assignments and participation;
2. Learning Outcomes 1-3 will be assessed in midterm exam;
