Course Objective

The aim of the course is to raise awareness on the functioning of multilingual document flow in the EU and help the students to translate taking into account the textual and paratextual elements of EU texts.

1   Know the language and translation policies of the EU.
2   Know the features of texts used in different institutions of the EU.
3   Know athe terminology used within the EU.
4   Know the methods to be used in the translation of EU texts.
5   Know the reference books and texts used in the translation of EU texts

1. Learning outcomes will be assessed through analysis and translation practice on the selected texts with the proportions mentioned above in exams and research in assignments.

1. Attendance (70%) is obligatory.
2. Absence will not be regarded as a rationale for late submission of assignments.
3. Mid-term, assignments, active participation, practice and final will be influential in assesment.
4. Any kind of plagiarism will be subject to disciplinary action.
5. Students should have their own dictionaries. They will not be permitted to borrow one during the exams. Mobile phones cannot be used as dictionaries.
