Course Objective

This course is designed to provide the students with a critical sensitivity and awareness in evaluating translated materials of various genres. By the end of the course, students are expected to gain new insights into different possibilities of treating a variety of translated texts (mainly, literary).

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The students will be able to identify the different possibilities in translating the same texts.
2   The students will be able to acquire and apply relevant solutions in criticizing the translated texts.
3   The students will be able to compare critically the merits and demerits in translation products.
4   The students will acquire a familiarity with critical issues and debates within translation criticism.
5   The students will be able to identify and comment upon various possibilities in the translation of a given text.

Assessment Criteria

1. One mid-term and one final written exam are given throughout the semester.
2. Each student is expected to submit one research project at the end of the semester.
3. Each student is expected to submit at least two short assignements throughout the semester.
