Course Objective

To recognize the scientific research methods and to make the application, To actively use the information relates to methods of scientific research in mathematics education studies

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To know the scientific method and do the appropriate research design to study the problem.
2   To learn the existence of different methods of data collection and analyzing data collection
3   To examine the research in mathematics education iterature and to look critically into this study.
4   To be able to perform computer-assisted data analysis, to perform and interpret the statistical tests in SPSS software, to perform and interpret in Nvivo coding, modeling and so on.
5   To collect data in the framework of a research question to be created in mathematics education, to analyze the data, to present and interpret research results and to present a report.

1 A brief information for scientific research methods
2 Making the general examination for quantitative research methods in mathematics education
3 Discussion of sampling methods in quantitative research in mathematics education and examine different researchs' samples
4 Analysis of the data in quantitative research in mathematics education, discussion of examples of different research
5 Investigation of the use and application examples of SPSS
6 Interpretation of the decoded data in quantitative research in mathematics education and discussion of their meaning
7 Making the general survey and analysis methods for qualitative research in mathematics education
8 Midterm exam
9 Discussion of examples of different sampling methods and research in qualitative research in mathematics education
10 Coding data in qualitative research in mathematics education and discussion of examples of different research
11 Examining the use and examples of application of NVivo program
12 Interpretation of the decoded data in qualitative research in mathematics education
13 Discussing the meaning of the decoded data in qualitative research in mathematics education
14 Perform data collection and analysis and reporting within the framework of a research question.
15 Final Exam
