Course Objective |
The aim of this course is to introduce the historical development and application techniques of Ottoman Miniature Art, and architectural buildings and urban depictions which was developed by Matrakçı Nasuh in 16th century in Ottoman Miniature; and is to teach the units and application techniques that are used; and is to have the students apply the style originally in today s cities, residences and buildings by miniature point of view and style perception. |

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods |
In this course, we will inform the students about the styles used in Ottoman Miniature and get them to have basic knowledge about the subject. We will also emphasize the works of Matrakçı Nasuh, the artist who became prominent by urban depictions in Ottoman, and the students will prepare a visually intensive portfolio including the works of today s miniature artists. We will also support the students with field researches and photography methods to collect visual equipment related to city and architectural residence depictions. The students are expected to contribute something to the lesson, and we will support them to discuss the ideas related to making up compositions and designing. At the designing stage, the discussions on making up sketches and approving the composition will be realized in the first and last lessons every week by the instructor. |

Further Notes About Assessment Methods |
This course involves 2 theoretical course credits; and 2 practical course credits. The attendance is very important because the students can learn the application techniques by following the lesson as those techniques are introduced one to one. We will observe the students creativity in using the application techniques and other materials in different ways, and the clarity of the composition factors and symbols that they have used to express the subject visually as well as the visual resource and sketches they are going to prepare. After the studies in the term, they will illustrate an architectural building or a city depiction originally in accordance with their choices, and this presentation will be evaluated. |
Assessment Criteria |
The project, assignment presentation and attendance will be evaluated out of 100. 80 % attendance is compulsory. |

After the theoretical information is given both orally and written, the practical studies are done one to one with the students. 80 % attendance is compulsory. The students will be informed about the following lesson and are supposed to make preliminary research on the subject. |
