Course Objective

To introduce rising, development, processed phases, schools of tafseer and modern understandings and works of.
To ensure students to have practical and theoretical knowledge of interpretation and understanding principles and methods of the Quran.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students will obtain general knowledge about the Quran commentaries from early periods to date
2   They will possess historical accumulation on mufassirs and their tafseers, tafseer process and traditions.
3   The students will comprehend the verses of the Quran in the linguistic framework by basing on the internal and external contexts of the verses.
4   The students will be informed of main concepts and sources of method of tafseer, the classical and modern books of method.
5   The students will get acquisition of following to rising and development of method of tafseer.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 The fact of revelation and collecting revelations of the Quran into a book.
2 The issue of seven letters and importance of reading the Quran in a prescribed way in the science (i lm) of tafseer.
3 Tafseer in the time of the Prophet and His companions.
4 Tafseer in the time of Tabi'uun and the collection of the Quran.
5 Narrative Tafseer and its particular samples.
6 Dirayah Tafseer and its particular samples.
7 The analysis of the concepts of method and understanding; introduction of particular works of the method.
8 Mid-term Exam
9 Historical context in Tafseer: Sabab al Nuzûl.
10 The issue of Nash and Mansuh; the change of judgements.
11 History of the Quran and Israiliyyat; Mushkil al Qur'an and Mubhamat al Qur an.
12 The issue of Muhkam and Mutashabih, I'jaz al Quran.
13 The linguistic context in Tafseer: pre-post context, the unity in Tafseer and Thematical Tafseer. Uslub al Quran; huruf u muqataa, addressing, oaths, questions-answers, parables.
14 Gharib al Quran, Maani al Qur'an, i'rab al Qur'an, reality-metaphor, vucûh and nazâir, consistency and harmony between verses and surahs.
