Course Objective

to determine the characteristics of Tabari's tafsir from the view point of dirayah, riwayah, fiqh and philology;
to prove the knowledge of mufassir about qiraah, Arab poetry and History;
to establish his influence upon his successors.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students having this course will learn the tafsir method of Tabari.
2   They will see his method of preference.
3   They will apprehend the importance that Mufassir gives philology.
4   They will observe how isnad (chain of reporters) takes place in Tafsir bi'l-Riwayah.
5   They will recognize the main sources of Tabari.
6   They will determine how it consists of the works written before it.
