Course Objective

to introduce the students tafsir works written in the first period of Islam;
to show them the differences and similarities among them;
to introduce different tafsir methods;
to expose the first period and the characteristics of tafsir science.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students having this course will understand the place of Arab poetry in Tafsir.
2   They will learn the position of the Prophet and His Companions in The Quranic Commentary.
3   They will apprehend relation between tafsir and philology.
4   They will come to know the basic characteristics of tafsir works written in the first period of Islam.
5   They will be acquainted with the main sources of Tafsir bi'l-Riwayah.
6   They will be acquainted with the main sources of Tafsir bi'l-Ra'y.
