Course Objective

To supply information on maritime trade history, players and parties involved, common cargo and vessel types and to introduce maritime transportation types and related freight markets.

10   Being aware of information resources regarding shipping
11   Understanding the relation between shipping and other scientific branches

2 History of merchant shipping
3 Supply and demand in shipping; factors effecting freight, charter rates and SnP prices.
4 Classification of merchant vessels upon cargo, vessel and trade types.
5 Flag, class and insurance
6 Dry bulk shipping: freight rates, main cargo types, main ship types, main routes, C/P agreements
7 Spot market intermediates: Brokers and agents
8 Liquid bulk transportation: dangerous cargo, worldscale, crude oil, petrochemicals, LNG and LPG
9 Liner shipping
10 Seaports
11 Scientific branches regarding maritime transportation and information resources
12 Summary and preparation for the final examination
