General Description

History

Architecture education in İzmir began in Ege Private School of Architecture and Engineering in Buca in 1963. Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Architecture was founded in the 3rd of July in 1992. However, the establishment of the faculty and the launch of the education in Alsancak have begun in 1971 with 12 undergraduate students of Architecture. The department was affiliated to different faculties since its establishment. The milestones of the faculty from the past until today are summarized as; "Ege University Engineering Sciences Faculty Academy of Engineering and Architecture (1971), Ege University Fine Arts Faculty (1975), Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (1982), Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Architecture (1992)". After the 23-years of education in the building in Alsancak, the faculty building moved to Kaynaklar Campus in Buca in the 2004-2005 academic year.

There are Architectural Design Master of Science and Doctorate Programs, Structural Construction Design Master of Science and Doctorate Programs, Restoration Master of Science and Doctorate Programs, at Dokuz Eylul University, Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Branch of Architecture.

The aim of M.Sc. in Structural Construction Design Program is the implementation of a multi-purpose program, which makes it possible for graduates of an architectural undergraduate program- to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to improve their expertise, competence and ability in all the areas of structure and construction (structure, material, processes of construction and work organization as well as fields that require specialty such as building physics, acoustics, earthquake management, sustainable building construction, building design with steel, energy performance, building economics, i.e.). As a result the program takes these principles as its basis: sharing works with the partners in their study area, with public and scientific fields at global and national levels by way of publications and thesis, and to obtain professional applicational adequacy in any medium.
