General Description
History |
The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering of Dokuz Eylül University, was established in 1997. Since its establishment, 15 laboratories have been set up by the financial support of the State Planning Organization, TUBITAK and the University Scientific Research programs. In its first academic year of 1999-2000, 30 students were enrolled. Formal education continues with 72 students. Students are admitted also to M. Sc. and Ph. D. Programs within the quota. |

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree) diploma; minimum score of 55 from the National Central Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field; a minimum score of 65 from the graduate school entrance exam; a minimum score of 50 from the nation-wide Foreign Language Exam ( YDS ) or equivalent score from an exam accredited by YÖK or a minimum score of 55 from DEU School of Foreign Languages English Proficiency Test. |
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) |
According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students may be accepted for graduate transfer with the approval of the Department Directorate and decision of the Board of Directors of the Graduate School in case the student fulfills the graduate transfer regulations decided by the General Council of the Graduate School. Previously taken courses at another graduate programme with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes with the written request of the students including course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the Department Directorates and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students may have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective by the decision of the Board of Directors. |
Qualification Requirements and Regulations |
The graduate program consists of at least seven courses and a research course, a seminar and a thesis study, provided that it is not less than 21 credits. The research course, seminar and thesis study are non-credit and evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. The student workload for a semester is 30 ECTS, and the total workload required for the completion of the M.Sc. program is 120 ECTS. |
Profile of the Programme |
The objectives of the Master s degree programme are to graduate expert engineers who are, investigative, innovative, self-confident, able to solve problems requiring expert knowledge by using scientific research methods and develop them with new approaches and in turn apply them to industry, are conscious of work ethics and protectors of the natural environment, and are able to develop strategy, policy and application plans for future.The program is carried out as Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Current research topics that are mainly studied in the program can be summarized as casting technologies, composite materials, biomaterials, nanomaterials, sensor technologies, ceramic materials, surface modification techniques, corrosion, fracture mechanics and damage analysis. The educational and research activities continue with academic staff consisting of 4 professors, 3 associative professors, 7 assistant professors, 1 lecturer and 9 research assistants, as of 2019. Students enrolled in the Ph.D. program have the opportunity to continue their education at universities with which we have agreements abroad within the framework of Erasmus program. In the Department, 15 laboratories (Mechanical Testing, Metallography, Characterization, Ceramic, Plastic Forming, Sample Preparation, Chemistry, Corrosion, Casting, Heat Treatment, X-Ray, Electronic Materials, Tribology, Simulation and Advanced Materials) operate in order to maintain educational and research activities. |

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples |
The number of graduate students in the department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is 93 at the end of the 2018-2019 term. Graduates can work as production, quality assurance and research and development engineers or as administrators in the automotive, defense, petrochemical, aerospace, energy, and white appliances sectors, integrated metal production plants, rolling mills, foundries, heat treatment, powder metallurgy, forging industry plants, ceramics, polymers and composite materials production and manufacturing facilities. Also, our graduates can serve as researchers or academics in various research centers at home and abroad. |

Graduation Requirements |
Second Cycle (Master of Science) Programme is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), M.Sc. Seminar (3 ECTS), M.Sc. Research (3 ECTS) and M.Sc. Thesis (60 ECTS) with a total credit of 120 ECTS. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50 / 4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades. |
