Course Objective

The aim of this course is, besides, giving information to preschool teacher students about the basic concepts of maternal-child health; To make student promote and prevent the mother-child health; learn and perform the interventions without any medication for preventing the child's acute status and turning back into life until the professional help arrived by making the first assessment of patient in the situations diseases, accidents, injuries, disasaters, poisoning, drowning, etc.

3   3. Know common infectious diseases in childhood
4   4. To be able to explain health problems of women s life.
5   5. To be able to explain disease prevention measures and vaccination schedule
6   6. To be able to explain first aid and basic rules
7   7. To be able to perform basic first aid practices

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Definition of maternal- child health , The situation of maternal- child health in the world and in Turkey
2 The formation of pregnancy, child development in prenatal period
3 The effects of illness and accidents in pregnancy period on development of chıldren
4 Chıld development in 0-6 ages (height, weight and teeth)
5 Chıld illness in 0-6 ages (such as infections)
6 Immunization, eruptive diseases, parasitic infections, prevention methods and vaccines.
7 Women's health problems in their life span
8 General review, assesment of lesson, Midterm exam
9 Birth control and contraceptive methods
10 Menopause
11 Such first aids to be done by teachers as broken-dislocated, injuries and combustion
12 First aid applications in object deglutition, n shock, invasions.
13 First aid applications in insect bites etc.
14 First aid applications in freezing, poisoning and heatstroke.
15 Final exam
