Course Objective

According to important masters of art history, searching elements of composition and sketching a copy, drawing, watercolor, achromatic watercolor with one of realistic means of expression.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Using color as a design element.
2   Copying one to one from a reproduction on canvas.
3   Preparing a canvas.
4   Using the artist's color setup and applying the same tones and the saturation grades of the colors.
5   Applying the same technique of the master.
6   Creating a composition on 50x70 (and more) canvas and working oil colors with an understanding of realism.
7   Making research on a subject and preparing a folio.
8   Presenting his research with a seminar.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Studying color and its usage with the help of master pieces as a basic design element.
2 Analyzing related pieces with the help of masters and subject. Analyzing master pieces with pencil, gouache and ink. Searching a master and choosing one for copying. Knowing the place of it in the process. Preparing a folio for the artist. Preparing a canvas.
3 One to one copy on canvas from reproduction.
4 Using the artist s color setup and applying the same tones and the saturation grades of the colors.
5 Applying the same technique of the master.
6 Finishing the artist s folio and presenting it with a seminar.
7 Making a research on realism, photo-realism and hyper-realism. Working on canvas with oil colors from real life objects colors and structure. Sketching for composition with pencil and ink.
8 General Review, Course Assessment, Midterm Exam
9 Applying a composition with oil colors on 50x70 (and more) canvas one to one with a type of realism.
10 Applying the composition by considering the structure with a type of realism with oil colors.
11 Making a research on the master and his/her style. Preparing sketches by using the design elements and principles with an original way of expression.
12 Working on canvas with an original way of expression and color setup with oil colors.
13 Working on canvas with an original way of expression and color setup with oil colors.
14 Finishing working on canvas with an original way of expression and color setup with oil colors. Expressing the information about the artist and his/her style.
