Course Objective

The introduction to legal norms regulating various issues and relations between members of the international community, analyses of judicial decisions on international disputes and the interpretation of current events related to the course content.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to define the basic concepts and principles of international law
2   To be able to explain the effects of the development of international law on the history of mankind
3   To be able to analyse the sources of international law and their effects on the internal legal order
4   To be able to analyse the elements of the state, the structure of international organizations and the relationship between these legal subjects, as well as their activities in the international field
5   To be able to specify the rules of international law pertaining to spaces
6   To be able to evaluate the current problems of international law

5 Effects of treaties, conflict and interpretation of treaties

7 General principles of law, secondary and indirect sources of international law
8 The concept of personality in international law, the basic elements of the state
9 Protection of state sovereignty, recognition of states and governments
10 Basic regulations for minorities, succession of states
11 The concept of international organization and main features of international organizations
12 General information about the United Nations (UN), its purposes, principles and structure

16 The International Court of Justice, the main activities of the UN and the protection of international peace
