Course Objective

- To present the sects and groups which represent religous character, during the history of Islam, and their social, cultural, political backgrounds, and their reasons for differentiation, their development process, their faith and views, their members, literature and their expanding lands.
- To give students the consciousness of behaving with tolerance at most, towards the people or group of people who has different beliefs and views, by promoting the idea that the religion can not be consubstantiated with the sects which are a form of understanding of a religion.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   They will get knowledge about basic resources, methods, and essential terms of History of Islamic Sects.
2   They will learn about the major factors that effected to establishing the theological and political sects in Islam (such as: religious texts, politics, social changes, human effects, old cultures and civilizations).
3   They will accept the fact that people can have different views and perpectives in understanding and interpreting of a religion; and learn different understandings and views in Islamic thoughts.
4   They will learn about the development process, the beliefs and views, the members, the literature and the expanding lands of the sects in Islamic History and about their contributions to the Islamic Thoughts.
5   By gaining an analyizing skill in the relaiton between Islam and Islamic sects, they will grasp the idea that the sects can not be consubstantiate with a religion and people who are a member of sect ought to behave with tolerance to the others.
