Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to gain qualifications of the basic manufacturing processes by using hand tools, drills, lathes, milling machines and grinding machine tools.

2   To drill different types of hole by using drill bench
3   To make the process of lathing by using lathe machine
4   To make the process of milling by using milling machine
5   To make the process of grinding by using grinding machine

Course Contents

1 Rasp, metal removing, cutter types, measuring and control tools, marking tools, cutting principles and types.
2 Cutting tools appropriate to the material, pedestal grinding wheel machines, drill grinding.
3 Drill types, drill bit angles, material properties of drills and drilled parts, order of actions drilling, speed account.
4 Reamers, tap and die, screw pıtch gauge, the order of actions threading with tap and die.
5 Lathe and lathing types, lathe parts, faceplates, beds, Lathe cutting tools, center drill, speed account, order of actions lathing.
6 Surface roughness, cutters for lathe machine, cutter angles, tool and cutter grinding, measuring instruments,

9 Taper turning methods, taper turning calculations, taper turning measuring gauges, drill types, peck drilling principles, tools for knurling on the lathe

Assessment Criteria

Five learning outcomes shall be measured by using Mid-term exam, homework assignments and final examination and the stage of achieving these learning outcome of the students will be followed with weekly assignments.

1. 70% of theoretical courses, 80% of practical classes attendance is compulsory.
2. Workshop apron must be worn in work practices.
3. To comply with machine use and safety regulations is mandatory while working in workshop.
