Course Objective

The aim of course; provide students with the concepts of economic growth, required to answer fundamental questions about the growth of the past to the present day theories of growth within the framework and demonstrate the importance of economic growth

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to learn Growth measurement techniques used in the analysis and interpret the results obtained.
2   To be able to analyze the growth process in developed and developing countries in the scope of Traditional and new growth theories.
3   To be able to learn relationship with the determinants of growth and establish macroeconomic policies.
4   To be able to evaluate the effects of Education, information technology, innovation, R & D activities and technological progress on growth.
5   To be able to learn the growth dynamics within the importance of competition in the provision of development and of institutions.

1 To reminder the basic concepts of Growth Analysis and measurement techniques used. Analysis of the different types of growth in the literature and the results of the growth. Methods of analysis sources of growth valuation of growth performance in recent years Turkey Economy
2 Classical Growth / Distribution Model and Neo-Keynesian Models of Growth reminder basic tools and mechanisms.
3 Under the assumption of fixed technology Solow Model: Basic Tools, Long-Term Stable situation Balance, Capital Accumulation Golden Rule, Convergence Hypothesis
4 Under the assumption of Technological Development the Solow model: Explanation of basic concepts related to technological development. Hicks, Harrod and Solow-type species analysis of technological development. Under the steady state, the balance of long-term technological development
5 Growth on the Alternative Thesis: Neo-Marxist Growth and Neo- Ricardian Growth
6 Extended Solow Model with Human Capital: Mankiw-Romer-Weil Growth Model, Endogenous Growth Models: The internalization of growth, basic concepts and assumptions of endogenous growth models
7 AK Model: Assumptions of the model, the model Growth Process Analysis, Convergence and policy proposals by the AK model. Lucas-Uzawa Human Capital Model: Explanation of the model structure and the process of learning by doing.

Assessment Criteria

Situated in the background of theoretical knowledge and their mathematical relationships in growth literature measured by the midterm and final exams. Growth experiences of countries to analyze their method of providing information on the sources of growth will be assessed by homework.
