Course Objective

The aim of this course is to gain information about the fundamentals of the yarn spinning, yarn quality parameters, short and long staple - conventional and modern spinning systems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to understand the fundamentals of the yarn spinning
2   To be able to classify yarn spinning systems
3   To be able to learn the yarn quality parameters (unevennness, elongation, strength etc.)
4   To be able to determine the effect of the fiber properties on the yarn properties
5   To be able to calculate yarn spinning parameters

1 Definition of the yarn, history of the yarn spinning, classification of the yarns, yarn sector in Turkey and the world
2 Fiber properties which are important in the yarn spinning and their effects on the yarn spinning
3 Yarn numbering systems, numbering of multi folded yarns, yarn conversion equations
4 Principles of drafting, folding and twist in the yarn spinning
5 Defininiton and classification of short staple yarn spinning systems and their principles
6 Opening, cleaning, blending techniques and systems
7 Mid-Term Exam
8 Mid-Term Exam
9 Working principle of carding, drafting, roving and combing machines
10 Working principle of conventional ring and compact spinning machines
11 Working principle of rotor spinning machine
12 Working principle of modern spinning systems
13 Definition of long staple spinning systems and their principles. Synthetic and silk yarn spinning
14 Yarn quality control
15 Final Exam
