Course Objective

To examine the rise of modern civil societies with an historical perspective and to understand the rise discussions over civil society after the collaps of Soviet Union.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to understand modern civil society within historical and sociological perspective
2   to understand the relationships between civil society with political state, economy, human rights, and democracy
3   to understand different theories of civil society and to make comparisons among them
4   to understand theories of and concepts of civil society and state
5   to make comparisons between civil societies in the West and the other parts of the world
