Course Objective

This course aims to guide students to analyses the relationship between gender and translation studies and to teach them gender-conscious approaches to translation.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Think critically on the relationship between gender and translation.
2   Identify different approaches to translation within the scope of gender studies.
3   Critically analyse and evaluate translation of works with different gender issues.
4   Demonstrate a critical awareness of a variety of issues such as translation of feminist theories, queer theory etc.
5   Familiarize with the terminology of gender studies and adopt it while translating the relevant texts.

Assessment Criteria

The students will take one mid-term (30%) and one final exam (40%) in a term. In addition, the students are expected to read the articles given, to complete their assignments in due time and to participate in classroom discussion. Their assignments, participation in the classroom activities and attendance will also be taken into consideration (30%).
