Course Objective

In this lecture the students will learn the basic techniques used in biochemistry laboratory.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Make experimental planning and applications in order to reveal some properties (colorization reactions, amphoteric character etc.) of protein and amino acids, and evaluate the results.
2   Isolate protein and determine the protein contents in biological sources by using spectrophotometric method and evaluate the results.
3   Determine enzyme activity spectrophotometrically and evaluate the results.
4   Examine the effects of factors such that amount of enzyme and substrate, pH and temperature on the enzyme activity and evaluate the results.
5   Indicate presence of carbohydrate in biological sources and osazone formation and experimentally assay of glucose, evaluation of the results.
6   Determine experimentally number of saponification and solubility of lipids and evaluate the results.
7   Isolate DNA from biological source and evaluate the results.

Assessment Criteria

Meaningful learning of the concepts of given experimental applications, association to concepts each other, establish cause-effect relationships, to using existed knowledge for evaluation to questions or problems and evaluating of generation ideas are carried out by using the midterm exam, final exam, active participation in the experimental practice. The lecturer informs the student about the assignments and their collection dates within first four weeks. The assignments with signatures are collected within the last two weeks.
