Course Objective |
This course aims to study economic and political crises of European integration within the context of structural dynamics of global crises of economic and political liberalism. How can we understand global crisis, Euro-zone crisis and its impact on European integration What are the structural and European based factors behind the rise of populism, xenophobia and far-right politics How can we understand the exit option of some member states such as British Brexit and Greek Grexit The course starts with uncovering how mainstream and critical approaches within International Political Economy literature in European studies explicate economic and political crises and examining different aspects of economic and political crises. The emphasis then shifts to familiarize students with different aspects of crises such as Brexit and Grexit, migration and social and cohesion policies behind integration. It concludes with a focus on political economy of Turkey-EU relations within the context of rising populism and economic crisis. |
