Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide detailed information about tour planning and tour guiding activities.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Identify the main activities that should be done pre-tour, during tour, pre-departure and departure and follow through.
2   Outline the basic issues of contracts between transportation, lodging establishment and point out the important clauses.
3   Outline main types of problems that can be faced during the tour with other travel partners.
4   Explain the different price components of a tour package and how a holiday cost is calculated.
5   Describe the procedures that should be done during an emergency.

Assessment Criteria

1. The students will be able to list the activities that should be done by the tour guide before tour, during tour, pre-departure, departure and after departure.
2. The students will be able to list several problems that can be faced related to hotels, restaurants, transportation companies and other travel partners.
3. The students will be able define tourist types and discuss characteristics of each type.
4. The students will be able to identify ways in handling complaints and solving difficult situations.
5. The students will be able to describe the procedures that should be done during an emergency.
6. The students will be able to calculate tour cost.

1. Attending at least 70 percent of lectures is mandatory.
2. Plagiarism of any type will result in disciplinary action.
3. Tardiness and early departure from lecture will be referred as absenteeism.
4. Using cell-phone for messages or any electronic devices during the course are strictly prohibited.
5. Participation to the course and discussions during the classes are required.
