Course Objective

This course aims to teach the student basic physiopathological subjects and concepts. In this course It is focused on thephysiopathologies of the most frequent diseases disordering the cell, organ, system functions. Students are taught about the basic physiopathological mechanisms which forms at the cell level. Students discuss on the organ and system function disorders and the symptoms presented with case examples by asking cause-effect questions. Students gain the ability in questioning the physiopathological changes in clinical situations and analyzing them by using his/her factual/conceptual learning he/she has had.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The students identifies normal cell organ and system functions.
2   The student explains the physiopathological mechanisms which are formed in cell organ and system functions.
3   The student shows the physiopathological process of the clinical symptoms given in the case examples
4   The student analyzes the physiopathology of the problems in clinical situations he/she meets.
5   The student assesses the results of the symptoms/diagnosis/laboratory and the related physiopathological mechanisms.

1 Cell Biology: Its structure and function, cell organalles, cell-cell adhesion, cell-to-cell communication, cell metabolism, membrane transport, cellular products, multiplication and tissue formation
2 Changes in Cell and Tissue Biology: Cellular adaptation, cell injurying and its symptoms, necrosis, cell in old age and changes in tissue

4 Defense Mechanisms; physical,biological and chemical barriers, inflammation, vascular, cellular response, plasma protein system, cellular products, local and systematic inflamation symptoms, fever, leucocytosis, plasma protein synthesis, cronical infalamtion, repair, reconstructive, maturation and disfunctional wound healing, specifications of self-defense mechanisms in children and old age

7 General pathology of Inflamation and Infection Diseases; Epidemical inf. diseases; classifying the infection agents, and body s barricades and overcoming them, disease formation mechanism of infection agents, the specifications of inflammatory response to infection agents, microorganisms overcoming the immune system, survival mechansims

9 Immunity General features, humoral and cellular immunitye, aktive and pasive immunity, immune structure and its response, antigen, immunogen, mollecules presenting the antigen and cytokines and its receptors, T and B cells maturation or colonal change immune response, T lymphocytes and immonoglobulins function, ımmune function in fetal, neonatal and old age
