Course Objective

Every step taken in the historical process and every event have a great effect on the fashion to take its current form. In this context, a good understanding of the historical dimension of fashion forms the basis of clothing design.
In this course, it is aimed to carry out detailed research on historical clothing, which has an inevitable effect on clothing design, and to present original and modern design suggestions by blending the clothing details of the period with current trends.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognizes the concepts related to fashion. Identify the development of these concepts in the historical process.
2   Defines the historical process of transition from clothing to fashion.
3   Evaluate the formation and development of Clothing Fashion in the historical process.
4   Examines the stages of clothing fashion in the historical process.
5   Gains knowledge on the factors and influence points that affect the formation of clothing design.
6   It offers new model suggestions by transforming historical effects into current clothing forms during the design phase.

4 4. Examining the concepts of "Retro" and "Vintage" in clothing fashion 14. Presentation and evaluation
5 5. Material, pattern and technical analysis of the clothing details of the period selected as the point of influence within the scope of the literature and visual researches and presenting them in the form of a report
6 6. Searching for alternative materials, techniques and forms for designs that will be influenced by the clothes of the selected period
7 7. Sketch design studies for contemporary interpretation of historical clothing forms

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Literature and visual source research process for the historical period and clothing details of the period . Analysis of current trends. Making alternative material and technical researches to create current and original designs by being influenced by historical clothing details and carrying out experimental application studies in this direction.

Assessment Criteria

Creative and original interpretation and design of historical clothing details
Correct association of the selected materials and application technique in the transition to production, meeting the expectations of the resulting application work.

1. It is compulsory to attend 80% of the course.
2. Any attempt to plagiarize and result in actual disciplinary action.
3. Not attending the course will not be considered as a valid excuse for late submission of homework and projects.
