General Description

History

Dokuz Eylul University Museum Studies MA Programme was found in 2014 in order to educate academic staff on field of museum studies. Moreover, Turkey plays a remerkable part in the World Cultural Heritage and so as to keep its seat, Turkey has to close to gap between museums and qualified personnel via master programmes.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle (Bachelor s Degree) diploma; a minimum score of 55 from the Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field or GRE/GMAT equivalent; a minimum score of 50 from the Foreign Language Exams (UDS/KPDS/YDS) or TOEFL IBT/PEARSON PTE/Goethe-Zertifikat/TestDaF/DELF&DALF equivalent or a minimum score of 55 from DEU School of Foreign Languages English Proficiency Test. Transcript; a minimum score of 65 from the graduate school academic proficiency exam.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Profile of the Programme

Academic staff of Dokuz Eylul University Museum Studies Programme has 4 lecturers, 2 specialists and 1 research assisant. Museum Studies MA Programme lasting two years consisting of 4 semesters. Course language is Turkish. Museum Studies MA programme provides to educate qualified personnels to work in several museums and academic personnels for universities.

1   Students are expected to acquire the terminology and basic concepts related to Museology.
2   Students are expected to have professional competence in all applied fields related with museums and museology.
3   Students are expected to be aware of the interdisciplinary interaction between the field of Museology and other fields.
4   Students are expected to acquire knowledge on the theoretical and practical aspects of Museology.
5   Students are expected to establish relations between museology and cultural processes
6   Students are expected to interpret and apply their acquired knowledge by integrating it to knowledge coming from different fields.
7   Students are expected to set up and develop projects related to Museology.
8   Students are expected to follow scholarly publications related to the field in both national and international levels.
9   Students are expected to acquire knowledge on historical process of national collections and museums

Students being graduated from Museum Studies MA Programme gain information and skill on museums, exhibition, design, educational programmes additional to academic studies.
State and public museums, private museums and virtual museums which have a remerkable increase, create new workspaces for graduates.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

The Master's program in the Department of Museum Studies has 120 ECTS and the duration is four semesters. The program consists of compulsory courses, elective courses, and a thesis. Thesis is graded on a pass/fail basis.. Students has to acquire at least 2.50 GPA (grade points average) on a 4.00 scale.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 53 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS), in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
