Course Objective

The aim of the Visual Art Education Course is not making all individuals artists. It a multidimensional process which is going to last from early childhood during all lifetime. Early childhood is the base of life, the learning speed is sof ast. General development characteristics are common but should be noted that every child is unique. Like National Education's general objectives and basic principles this courses objectives are improving children's body, mind, emotional and socially and acquiring good habits, developing their imagination, teaching chritical thinking by creative ways, expressing themselves and acquiring communication skills.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knowing the necessity of visual arts education and basic principles of it.
2   Looking at the artistic level of early childhood, common characteristics of paintings.
3   Knowing creativity, creative thinking, creative art education in school, Dramatization in visual art education.
4   Knowing early childhool artistic activities.
5   Painting, 3D applications.
6   Analyzing children's paintings.
7   Knowing the theory of multiple intelligences in visual arts education.
8   Knowing artworks and museum education.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 History of early childhood education (in Turkey and all over the world).
2 History of visual arts, views about children s paintings and brief history of analyzing children s paintings.
3 The necessity of early childhood art education and basic principles, conceptual approach to children s paintings.
4 Child and painting as means of communication.
5 Visual thinking and perception.
6 The effect of art education in early childhood on the emotional and social development of children.
7 Common characteristics of children's paintings, looking at the improvement grade of children (line and color)

9 The attitudes of family and teacher in early childhood visual art education in terms of emotional and social development.
10 Social and emtional acquisitions in visual art education. Theories of psychology and pedagogy.
11 Children's creativity, creative thinking in education system. Skill. Creativity and education, creative art education in school, characteristics of creativity of children's.
12 The theory of multiple intelligence in visual art education, reflections on education, fields of intelligences(verbal, mathematical, physical, musical, social, internal, naturalist).
13 Using equipments and materials in early childhood, environment, place and 3D's.
14 The determined objectives of 36-72 months children's educations and expected behaviours in order to reach these objectives, psychomotor field, social-emotional field.
