Course Objective |
The course objective is to have students to acquire the basic knowledge and skills required in the translation of literary works from German to Turkish. Students will be informed about the challenges created by culture-specific concepts and vocabulary in literary translation and also about the possibilities that literary translation offers to translators. It is aimed to inform students on the various methods and strategies used in different genres such as novel, short story, poetry, theatre and children s literature and to have them get experienced in translation of passages in such genres. Besides, students will gain experience in preliminary research in order to learn the historical context necessary in the process of literary translation and in thinking ahead of the translation of the methods they will use and different solutions to potential problems. |

1. In the mid-term exam, a part of an author s work that has been studied during those weeks, of which translations have been discussed and that is not particularly dealt with in the class is asked. In the assessment, 40% of the mid-term exam will be taken into consideration |
