Course Objective

The aim of this course is teaching the basic hydraulic principles and fundamentals of flows in pipelines and open channels. This course gives the ability of designing of pipelines and open channel flows using basic hydraulic equations.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Defining the basic hydraulic principles of pipeline flows and open channel flows
2   Interpreting of the type of laminar flow and turbulance flow in pipelines and uniform/ununiform open channel flows
3   Applying the basic problems defining pipeline flows and open channel flows
4   Ability of solving the practical hydraulic problems
5   Formulation and designing of pipeline flows and open channel flows
6   Solving and discussion of pipeline flows and open channel flows

3 Head losses in pipeline, friction losses, local losses
4 Hydraulic design of pipelines, energy losses application
5 Open channel flow, uniform flow in open channels, energy equation
6 Uniform flow equations in open channels, energy losses calculations
7 1. Midterm Exam
8 Determining of optimum cross section
9 Ununiform flow in open channels, specific energy, critical flow, natural flow conditions, flow regimes
10 Longitudial profiles of ununiform flows in open channels
11 Diferential equation of water level in open channels
12 Flow measurement in open channels,Flow through hydraulic structures
