Course Objective

This course aims at providing the students with information on speech organs and phonological classification of sounds; providing crosslinguistic expamles related to major phonological patterns; enable the students to achieve introductory knowledge about the latest theories of phonology; and enable the students to use the phonological analysis software at the basic level.

6 Phonetic and Phonemic transcription, Rule writing, phonological change
7 Syllable structure, CV tier
8 Lab application: Praat software, the acoustic features of vowels
9 Lab application: Praat software, the acoustic features of consonants
10 Suprasegmental phonemes
11 Stress: Word stress, phrase stress and sentence stress
12 Intonation
13 Lab application: Praat software, Stress Patterns

LO 1-2 will be evaluated by the questions in the midterm and final exams.
LO 3-5 will be evaluated by porjects.
