Course Objective

This course aims to ensure that students understand the differences between domain-specific translation and other types of translation, broaden their knowledge about the related domain and acquire translation competence in compliance with the scientific norms of the translation studies and specialize in the specific domains.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students will understand differences between domain-specific translation and other types of translation and also language differences.
2   Students will comprehend domain-specific texts and be able to explain the main concepts in the domain.
3   Students will reach to a level that they can understand the main concepts in the domain-specific texts and Express them in Turkish.
4   Students will be able to identify the domain-specific terminology, use the dictionaries effectively and prepare glossaries.
5   Students will learn their role and responsibility in domain-specific translation. They will acquire translation competence to translate such texts correctly and according to scientific norms

Domain-specific projects will be given during the term. Moreover, students will be graded according to attendance and participation.

Assessment Criteria

1. Learning Outcomes 1-5 will be assessed as per 30% homework assignments and participation;
2. Learning Outcomes 1-3 will be assessed in midterm exam;
3. Learning Outcomes 4-5 will be assessed in final exam.

2. Absence will not be regarded as a rationale for late submission of assignments.
