Course Objective

Theatre translation is a complex and creative collaboration. In the new millenium, academic interest in the context of drama and translation for the stage has become a significant area of research. In the light of theoretical, pedagogical and practical applications, this course will observe new modes of translation and performance-based translation devices such as `surtitles .
The course also aims at discussing and translation of certain terminology related with Ethical, and political issues, the aesthetic complexities in Postdramatic Theatre and translating the untranslatable in In-Yer-Face Drama.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students practise translating selected drama texts from the contemporary British drama
2   They learn how to benefit from linguistic theories in translation
3   They be familiar with the terminology of ethical and political issues
4   They learn to translate the explicit language of In-yer-face and postdramatic theatre
5   be aware of the intercultural mediation handled within the texts
