Course Objective |
|
The aim of this course is to conceptually address generally the phenomenon of language and specifically the phenomenon of translation as a linguistic activity,to investigate the act of translation beyond the limits of language as a discourse within its social, cultural and historical context, and to study the productive subject behind this discourse as the center of this activity,to analyse the language use and the act of translation with respect to meaning assembly and the system of signs that they entail,to learn about translation profession and institutions,the code of conduct and standarts of the profession and to recognise the translation market and job opportunities. |

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods |
|
The course materials suggested for students come from two different sources. The first group of sources include academic books. Students are expected to skim and scan them before they come to class. The translations are grouped, evaluated and criticised in the light of the recently gained knowledge. Students prepare individual responses and presentations and come to class ready to present them at this stage. |
