Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide the students a general insight into the properties, shortcuts and efficient usage of basic audio recording and editing software.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Perform basic editing and analysis over audio data
2   Perform operations for music creation and arranging
3   Use the shortcuts and unique properties of the software
4   Identify the relationships between different software and being able to apply the same editing procedures in different software individually,
5   Incorporate each software and functions in musicology related research and applications

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The course will be carried out with presentations of individual software. Student will be given an assignment to research individual software to be presented in class. The presentations will be made using powerpoint and have to be supported with sample projects. If possible students are encouraged to deliver these projects to their classmates in order for them to practice and apply the procedures on their own.
The students are finally required to prepare a comprehensive paper from their presentations to be admitted to the course instructor at the end of the semester.

70% course attendance is mandatory.
The students are responsible with the use of the computer lab, recording studio and all the equipment.
Students who wish to practice individually or as a group should inform the course instructor and schedule their practice sessions taking available lab hours into account.
Only students taking this course are allowed to attend courses and practice sessions. No one else other than the attendants of the course should be allowed in the lab or the studio, even if he/she is a student of the music technology department or not.
