Course Objective

The aim of this course is to learn the medical and surgical approach to inflammatory, degenerative, vascular and mechanical diseases of gastrointestinal system; differential diagnosis, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain pathogenesis, discuss differential diagnosis, diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal system infections
2   Discuss differential diagnosis, diagnosis, explain principles of treatment of gastric and peptic ulcer
3   Explain etiopathogenesis, discuss differential diagnosis, diagnosis and identify principles of treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases
4   Diagnose gastrointestinal tract tumors
5   Explain etiopathogenesis, discuss differential diagnosis, diagnosis and identify principles of treatment of jaundice
6   Explain etiopathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of primary and secondary hepatic tumors
7   Explain etiopathogenesis, discuss differential diagnosis, diagnosis and govern treatment of acute abdomen
8   Explain pathogenesis, discuss diagnosis and of treatment of HIV/AIDS
9   Discuss the importance and principles of prevention of hospital infections

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

In the fourth and fifth years the assessments are done at the end of each block and minimum 65 is required to be successful.
DEUMF Rules and Regulations
Article 25
a) To take the OSCE and theoretical exams, task-end progress evaluations should be 60 and above for the 70% of the tasks in the block. The average of the task-end progress evaluations, OSCE and written exam grades should be all 60 and above and block end grade should be minimum 65 in order to be successful from the block.
