Course Objective

The aim of this course is to acquire knowledge and skills in the diagnosis, treatment and management of a patient who admit to a medical institution with symptoms and signs of emergency medical condition.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the principles of approach to a patient with trauma, define symptoms, perform physical examination, interpret the results of diagnostic tests, discuss priorities of management
2   Explain the principles of approach to a patient with shock, discuss ressussitation and plan treatment
3   Discuss basic principles of follow-up of a patient in an intensive care unit, explain treatment regimens, discuss indications of mechanical ventilation
4   Explain pathologies related to SISR, sepsis and multiple organ failure
5   Perform post-mortem examination, assess the medico-legal aspects of death, define the legal responsibility of physicians
6   Define the ethical and legal responsibilities of physicians in forensic cases
7   Diagnose the intoxicated patient, discuss differential diagnosis, plan treatment

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

In the fourth and fifth years the assessments are done at the end of each block and minimum 65 is required to be successful.
DEUMF Rules and Regulations
Article 25
a) To take the OSCE and theoretical exams, task-end progress evaluations should be 60 and above for the 70% of the tasks in the block. The average of the task-end progress evaluations, OSCE and written exam grades should be all 60 and above and block end grade should be minimum 65 in order to be successful from the block.
