Course Objective

With relate to everday life to consolidate, improve, complement shortage and show application of chemistry knowledge which is learned in elementary and secondary schools. Using the their chemical information, to improve skills of inqiry, problem solving and critical thinking.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding of scientific thinking and inquiring relation with daily life.
2   Have the basic knowledge on the concepts such as properties and states of matter, structure of atom, chemical bonds and molecular structure
3   Determine molecular geometries by using compound formulas
4   Write the formulas of ionic compound and Lewis s formula of compound
5   Balance chemical equations
6   Make chemical calculations
7   Solve gas problems

2 Scientific methods, significant numbers, properties of matter
3 Atom and electronic structures of atoms, nucleus of atom, proton, neutron and electron, atomic theory
4 Modern atomic Theory
5 Introduction of periodic table, Types and periodic properties of elements
6 Ionization Energies, electronegativity, atomic radius, electron affinities
7 Introduction of chemical bonds, Lewis structures of molecules, formal charge
8 Midterm Exam
9 Ionic bond, covalent bond, intermolecular forces of attraction
10 Molecular geometry, Hybridization and hybrid orbital
11 Formulas, types and properties of Chemical compounds
12 Chemical reactions and equations, types of reaction
13 Oxidation-reduction reactions and to balance equations, The Mole and chemical calculations
14 Gases, ideal and real gases, gas laws.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The homeworks will be assessed by directly adding to the mid-term scores. The exam dates will be indicated in the lesson plan. As the exam dates become definite, the previously announced dates may change.

Assessment Criteria

1. The basic principals of chemistry, the laws of chemistry will be assessed by exams, homeworks, portfolios and projects.

1. It is obligated to continue to at least 70% of lessons .
2. Every trial to copying will be finalized with disciplinary proceedings.
3. The instructor has right to make quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam scores.
