Course Objective

With relate to everday life to consolidate, improve, complement shortage and show application of chemistry knowledge which is learned in elementary and secondary schools. Using the their chemical information, to improve skills of inqiry, problem solving and critical thinking

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding of scientific thinking and inquiring relation with daily life
2   Draw potential energy diagrams of chemical reactions
3   Define how various effects change chemical equilibrium and equilibrium constant
4   Have the knowledge about chemical thermodynamics such as enthalpy, entropy and internal energy and will be able to solve problems
5   Define solubility equilibrium
6   Define the characteristics of alkaline metals, alkaline earth metals, non metals and noble gases

1 Gases, ideal and real gases, gas laws. Solids and liquids, crystal structure of solids, Evaporation and vapor pressure, boiling point and freezing point.
2 Solutions and solubility, effect of factors on solubility
3 Chemical thermodynamics,first law of thermodynamics, Thermochemistry, enthalpy, heat of reaction, the law of Hess
4 Measurement of heat , second law of thermodynamics, Entropy and Gibbs free energy
5 Measurement of heat , second law of thermodynamics, Entropy and Gibbs free energy
6 Chemical Kinetics, reactions rates,fist-order and second-order reactions
7 Chemical Kinetics, reactions rates,fist-order and second-order reactions
8 Midterm Exam
9 Reaction mechanisms, effect of factors on reaction rate

1. The basic principals of chemistry, the laws of chemistry will be assessed by exams, homeworks, portfolios and projects.

2. Every trial to copying will be finalized with disciplinary proceedings.
3. The instructor has right to make quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam scores.
