Course Objective

The students are aimed to acquire knowledge, skills and experience about thermodynamic, optics and waves.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe the scientific models deal with thermodynamic, optics and waves.
2   Compare sizes of the physical quantities that are used in the models and use the reasonable size quantities about these subjects.
3   Solve problems using calculus used in calculating certain physical quantities on thermodynamic, optics and waves phenomena.
4   Appreciate and interpret of systematic in thermodynamic, optics and waves phenomena with integration and interdisciplinary approach.
5   Keep track of developments about thermodynamic, optics and waves phenomena.

Course Contents

1 Course information and introduction to thermodynamics
2 Heat and temperature, thermal properties of mass (specific heat, thermal conductivity, thermal expansion)
3 the zero and first laws of thermodynamic
4 the second laws of thermodynamic, reversible and irreversible process, efficiency and entropy
5 the application of thermodynamic laws
6 the nature, speed and source of light, reflection and mirrors
7 refraction and lenses
8 Interference and diffraction, dispersion, polarization
9 MID-TERM EXAM
10 Magnifying glass, glasses, microscope, camera, projection, telescope, the spectrometer of prism.
11 The kinematics, dynamic and energy of waves, reflection, refraction and interference of waves, sound waves, standing waves, resonance, intensity of sound, Doppler event.
12 AC Circuits: The circuit of RL, RC and RLC, resistance, current, resonance, radio transmitter and receiver.
13 Electric and magnetic vibration, radiation from an antenna, electromagnetic spectrum, energy and momentum of electromagnetic waves.
14 Nuclear physics: The energy of nuclei, natural and artificial radioactivity, nuclear reactors.
15 FINAL EXAM
