Course Objective

Developing the perceptions of preservice science teachers about definition, history and philosophy of science and their competencies for epistemological and ontological arguments

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Students will be able to discuss the purpose and characteristics of science
2   2. Students will be able to tell the premises of basic schools of thoughts in philosophy of science
3   3. Students will be able to evaluate the effects of philosophy of science arguments on the development of science
4   4. Students will be able to discuss the nature of scientific methods
5   5. Students will be able to discuss the structure and characteristics of scientific knowledge
6   6. Students will be able to discuss the sample cases from the history of science according to philosophical arguments

1 Evolution of the science since ancient Near East civilizations
2 Science in the period of Iyonya-Helen, Islam-Turk (Arabian, Horosan, Selcuk, Endulus, Ottoman)
3 The development of Astronomy, Mathematics, Physics, Medicine, Biology etc. . during the above periods and since Renaissance in the West
4 Science and Technology Revolutions in the 20th century.
5 Science, scientific knowledge, scientific process
6 Scientific literacy
7 Technology and technology literacy-Science-Technology-Society
8 Presentations of group homeworks of students in relation to the scientist who contributed to the science and technology field.
