Course Objective

To get knowledge of structural, molecular and functional properties of eukaryotic and procaryotic cells.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Have knowledge about various aspects of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells in detail 2   Conduct detailed literature research on laboratory techniques in cell 3   Discuss several current topics in cell biology with his/her classmates 4   Use current techniques in cell biology 5   Examinate on cell differentiation

Week Subject Description 1 Introduction to cell biology laboratory. 2 Microscopy and microscope techniques and diversity of cells. 3 Microscopic measurement units and measuring under microscope. 4 Sectioning, staining and permanent sample preparation. 5 Microscopic observation of sub cellular structures. 6 pH and biological buffers. 7 Centrifuges and centrifugation 8 Mid-term exam 9 Isolation and analysis of subcellular structures, nucleic acids and proteins. 10 Enzymes and their activities. 11 Cell division. 12 Chromosome morphologies. 13 Transport of cellular molecules from membrane. 14 Photosynthesis and respiration. 15 Final exam
