Course Objective

To understand of the nature and organisation of the genetic material, and the mechanisms of replication, transmission and change, and the processes controlling its expression.

5 Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic replication
6 Structure of DNA polymerase holoenzyme
7 The oriC replication model
8 Mid-term exam
9 Structure of prokaryotic RNA polymerase
10 Transcription of Prokaryotic genes: Initiation, elongation and termination
11 Transcription of Eukaryotic genes: RNA polymerase I, II and III
12 Posttranscriptional modifications
13 Translation (Protein synthesis): Initiation, elongation and termination.
14 Enzymes of restriction endonuclease and genetic engineering
15 Final exam
