Course Objective

This course aims to give information about classifying organic compounds , basic properties of hydrocarbons (alkanes, alkenes and alkynes); to investigate reactions and synthesis of alkanes, alkenes and alkynes

1   Classify and name organic compounds.
2   Explain basic properties of hydrocarbons.
3   Explain isomery and kinds of isomery.
4   Distinguish reactions of alkanes, alkenes and alkynes.
5   Plan retrosynthetic analysis related to alkanes, alkenes and alkynes.

2 Chemical Bonding : VSEPR, polarity, hybridization, resonance
3 Hydrocarbons , functional groups and classification of them
4 Alkanes: Basic properties, nomenclature, physical properties, Isomery,
5 Alkanes: Reactions
6 Alkanes: Synthesis
7 Alkenes: Basic properties, nomenclature, physical properties, structural and geometric isomery
8 Midterm Exam
9 Alkenes: Reactions
10 Alkenes: Synthesis
11 Alkynes: Basic properties, nomenclature, physical properties, isomery
12 Alkynes: Reactions
13 Alkynes: Synthesis
14 Stereochemistry: optical activity, chiral compounds, enantiomers
