Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the principles of economics and to provide a basic understanding of how economic actors such as households and firms decide to manage/allocate their available resources in an efficient way. And, this course is intended to introduce the students to some basic macroeconomic concepts, with special emphasis on determinants of the level of national income, prices and employment.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to express what economists mean by the concept of scarcity.
2   To be able to identify the determinants of demand and supply.
3   To be able to explain the concept of market equilibrium.
4   To be able to explain and analyze differences between perfect and imperfect competition.
5   To be able to demonstrate an understanding of economic theories of consumer and producer behaviour.
6   To be able to explain and use the basic concepts of production, profit, and costs.
7   To be able to analyze the basic principles of macroeconomics.
8   To be able to explain key macroeconomic variables and the measurement of such variables.
