Course Objective

Understanding the intellectual and historical foundations of the European Union, recognizing the European Union's main institutions and organs, recognizing the Member States and the European Union s symbols, learning the requirements and stages of full membership negotiation process, knowledge about the basic approaches of the EU founding treaties, review the Treaty of Lisbon s reformist approaches, learning the historical basics of Turkey-EU relations, analyze the advantageous and disadvantageous position of Turkey about it s negotiation process to EU under assessments of the Progress Reports.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students understand the importance of membership in international integrations.
2   Students learn the Union of European history, goals, and institutions.
3   Students describe the steps and criteria s for joining the European Union.
4   Students learn the history and current status of Turkey-EU relations, and interpret the strategies on Turkey's membership for European Union.
5   Students assess the chances of Turkey's European Union membership under the Progress Reports.
