Course Objective

Since the beginning of the general characteristics of the Turkish Education in the clutch, the Ottoman Turks during the development of the education system, in conjunction with modernization description of the movements of the Republic during the period of reforms in the field of education, school, teacher education levels and classify the review of the policies of the Turkish education system as a recognition of thinkers associated with their periods and the contributions of these thinkers description of the Turkish Education.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students meaning of education and training, understand the scope and content of course.
2   Students are pre-Islamic Turkish education system after the system compares Islam.
3   Students will understand the general characteristics of the Ottoman education system.
4   Students learn to education in the Republican era.
5   Students study the history of Turkish educators and explain their contribution to the education system.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 History of Turkish Education periods, purpose, and scope.
2 General features of Islam education in the previous period.
3 Education and the famous thinkers of the Turkish-Islamic States.
4 Organization 18 century, the Ottoman Empire until the general characteristics of educational institutions.
5 First modernization movements and general characteristics of the Tanzimat reforms of education.
6 Constitutional Periods education, the education restructuring and opening schools.
7 Contributors to Education: Sati, Ethem Nejat, Ziya Gökalp, Ismail Hakki Baltacıoğlu.
8 Midterm Exam.
9 Reforms in the early years of the Republic: Unification of Education Law and the adoption of the Latin alphabet.
10 During the preschool and primary education reforms in the Republican Period.
11 Reforms in secondary and higher education during the Republican Period.
12 General properties of Republican education (post-1970 developments).
13 During the period of the Republic of changes in the field of teacher education.
14 Educational thinkers of the Republican period and its contribution to education.
16 Final Exam.
