Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the prospective teachers studying at the Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology about the basic knowledge, skills and practice ability to prepare instructional materials using different instructional technologies. With this purpose in mind, the basic features of different instructional technologies, the qualities of a well prepared instructional material, and the preparation and evaluation of instructional materials are taught.

1   To be able to describe the basic concepts of instructional technologies
2   To be able to state the criteria used in design and preparation of instructional technologies
3   To be able to state different qualities of various of instructional technologies
4   To be able to choose and apply appropriate instructional technologies
5   To be able to evaluate instructional materials prepared via different instructional technologies
6   To be able to develop 2 or 3 dimentional instructional materials by using a variety of instructional technologies

1 Introduction of the course syllabus and the resources
2 Basic jargon (technology, educational technology, tool, material etc) evolution of the systems approach, changing roles of teachers and students
3 Classification of tools and their connection with learning, Dale s cone of experience, instructional tools, contributions of instructional tools, material preparation processes, criteria to be used, understanding and interpreting visual elements, objectives of visual design and elements of visual design
4 PowerPoint and its preparation
5 Audio visual tools and their advantages, limitations, points to take into consideration, contributions of them to instruction
6 Communication technologies and their application in class: TV and video, teleconferences. Multimedia and Mayer's multimedia design principles
7 Computers: hardware and software
8 Midterm
9 MS Office; MS Word and MS Excel
10 Computer Assisted Instruction, types of Computer Assisted Instruction software, and their design criteria, Computer Assisted School Management
11 Internet, LANs and WANs, TCP/IP, how Internet works, Internet services, e-mail, telnet, chat rooms, FTP, WWW, connecting to Internet and Internet Service Providers, anatomy of the addresses on the Internet, Internet domain names and Web 2.0 applications
